image   Washington, March 13 - Researchers using ESO's Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) have found the largest yellow hypergiant star HR 5171 A - 1300 times the diameter of the Sun and much bigger than was expected.   This makes it the largest yellow star known. image   Johannesburg, Mar. 08 - Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reportedly warned that popular social media networks YouTube and Facebook could be banned in the country after a number of online leaks added momentum to a corruption scandal.

Erdogan said in an interview that the government would take new steps to tighten their grip over Internet after 30th March, including a ban on these sites.

However, President Abdullah Gul, a frequent social media user, said that Facebook and Youtube were recognized platforms all over the world and a ban was out of the question, News 24 reports.

image   Washington, Mar. 08 - A passenger jet carrying 239 people that reportedly lost contact with Malaysian Airlines is suspected to have run out of fuel.

Flight MH 370 from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing lost contact with the Subang Air Traffic Control at about 2:40 a. m. local time.

Malaysia Airlines Vice President of Operations Control, Fuad Sharuji, said that they had no idea where the aircraft was, adding that they had tried to call through various means, but to no avail, CNN reports.

The airline said that the Boeing 777-200 departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 12:41 a. m. and was expected to land in Beijing at 6:30 a. m., and included

image   Washington, March 4 - US First Lady Michelle Obama will undertake a visit to China from March 19-26, the White House announced Monday.

The First Lady will be visiting Beijing from March 20-23, Xi'an on March 24, and Chengdu from March 25-26, Xinhua quoted a White House statement as saying.

Michelle will also visit a university and a high school in Beijing, and a high school in Chengdu.

Accompanying the First Lady on this trip will be her mother, Marian Robinson, and daughters -- Malia and Sasha Obama, the statement said.

image   A four-month-old infant in Maryland, US, was found with teeth formed in his brain because of an uncommon tumour in the brain.

The tumour was uncovered close to the youngster's pituitary organ after tests uncovered his head was becoming big.

image Enterprise Minister Fergus Ewing has written to retailers in the UK to address the issue of higher delivery charges for customers residing in the rural areas.

He said that the government wants to ensure that the customers in remote parts of Scotland will not suffer excessive delivery charges form UK retailers. He asked retailers to describe how they will follow guidelines that state that the customers in rural parts of the UK are not discriminated against. image After failing to get a response during its first attempt to find a vendor for coal import contract, Coal India Ltd (CIL) has issued a re-tender for import of coal with some modifications.

CIL, the country's biggest miner of coal, made modifications in the tender in a bid to receive a better response from prospective vendors. The tender will likely open in first week of this month.

CIL Director (marketing) Bipin Kumar Saxena said, "We have issued re-tender for the coal import contract with some modifications. The tender is likely to open in first week of this month. We are hopeful of receiving interest from prospective vendors."

image   Lucknow, March 3 - Sahara chief Subrata Roy is likely to be taken to New Delhi Monday by road, police sources said.

According to officials, the business tycoon, who was arrested following the Supreme Court's instructions, will be escorted to Delhi by a team of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

Roy is scheduled to appear in the apex court March 4.

While officials refused to divulge details of the route by which Roy will be taken, it is understood that a team of two dozen police officers would take him via the Lucknow-Kanpur-Firozabad-Yamuna Expressway route.

image   Washington, Feb 27 : A survey by a leading US think tank has found that Indians expect the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to do a better job in facing the various challenges faced by India.

The survey by Pew Research Centre also suggests that BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is more popular than Congress vice-president and putative prime ministerial candidate Rahul Gandhi.

Indians by a margin of more than three-to-one, would prefer the BJP to lead the next Indian government rather than the Congress, according to the poll.

image   Islamabad: Pakistani fighter jets pounded militant hideouts in the lawless North Waziristan Agency killing at least 15 militants, official sources today said, as peace talks with the Taliban remained in limbo.

Air strikes were carried out late last night in Mir Ali area in North Wazirastan Agency to "target militants hideouts with precision".

"There are confirmed reports that 15 militants including foreigners were killed in the strikes. A huge cache of arms and ammunition have also been destroyed," an official source said. The bombardment was part of surgical strikes which sources said should not be taken as military operation.

image   Indian banks, which have long been reeling under escalating pressure of non-performing assets (NPAs), suffered a heavy loss of more than 17,000 crore during last financial year due to fraud, information obtained through Right to Information (RTI) Act has revealed.

According to ET, a total of 62 banks filed 26,598 cases of fraud involving a sum Rs of around 17,284 crore during the FY2012-13. The figure represents a four-fold increase over the previous fiscal.

image   Dharamsala: Recent decades have likely been the wettest on record in the semi-arid Tibetan plateau, researchers say, warning that any further large-scale warming might lead to even greater rainfall in Tibet, the birthplace for Asia's great rivers.

The wettest individual year reconstructed in 3,500 years in northeastern Tibet is 2010, say climate researchers at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and the Chinese Academy of Sciences in an online paper in US academic journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

image   Patna: Some of the districts in Bihar are one of worst Maoist-hit areas in the country. Now, in order to combat the menace, security forces in the state have started using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) so that security of those who are in field operations is not compromised.

Though this is the first time that UAVs are being used in Bihar, it has been in use in other Naxal-affected states like Chhatishgarh and Jharkhand. Some of the worst hit areas in Bihar have been the districts of Gaya, Aurangabad and Jamui.

image   Kathmandu: Rescuers have found the wreckage of the plane that went missing on its way from a tourist resort to a town in western mountains of Nepal on Monday.

All 18 people on-board, including 15 passengers and three crew members, have perished in the plane crash, authorities have reportedly said.

One of the passengers was said to be a Danish national.

The contact with the place was broken 35 minutes after it took off Pokhara airport at 12:40 pm.

The Nepal Airlines plane was spotted earlier today on the side of a mountain near Machinelek and now efforts are being made to reach the wreckage.
